Our story
"We didn't set out to open a restaurant. We set out to feed people the way we feed our own family."
Thaniya sits at the edge of the water in Hiriwatuna, just outside Habarana — close enough to the lake that the prawns on your plate were swimming in it that morning. What started as simple rice and curry has grown into something a little more theatrical: tables set on the shore, a candlelit dinner among the trees, even a table built onto a boat.
Every curry here still starts the same way — mustard seeds cracking in a clay pot, curry leaves torn by hand, coconut scraped that morning. We serve rice and curry the size a family would actually eat, on banana leaf when we have it, and we don't rush the pot for anyone.
